Very few would associate Scottsdale, a very ‘Western’ town located in the Sonoran Desert, to be associated with arty sophistication. But, Scottsdale belies its gruff image by housing more than 125 museums, art galleries and hosting musical fiestas and dramas.

The 35th annual Scottsdale Arts Festival is held annually at Scottsdale Center for the Arts. Around 180 renowned artists of the country showcase their works during this festival. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) founded in 1999 is the only museum of its kind in the state of Arizona which displays latest in architecture and design. Designed by architect Will Bruder, it has five galleries for displaying works. It has an sculpture garden in the outdoors which has James Turrell's Knight Rise, a public sky space. The museum organizes various educational programs, lectures, workshops for families and individuals. The Store @ SMoCA sells furnishings, art and architecture books etc.

Set amidst the backdrop of Sonoran Desert, the city is home to 0.22 million people and spans over 180 square miles.
