| 12.12.04 (9:25 pm) [edit] |
Very few would associate Scottsdale, a very ‘Western’ town located in the Sonoran Desert, to be associated with arty sophistication. But, Scottsdale belies its gruff image by housing more than 125 museums, art galleries and hosting musical fiestas and dramas. Scottsdale Center For The Arts, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale Public Art and Scottsdale Cultural Council are the major cultural attractions of this city.
Book lodging in one of the Scottsdale hotels close to one of these places, if arts are right up your alley. For more info on Scottsdale hotels visit www.scottsdale.live.net, www.scottsdale-hotel.bz and www.scottsdale-resort-hotels.com.
The 35th annual Scottsdale Arts Festival is held annually at Scottsdale Center for the Arts. Around 180 renowned artists of the country showcase their works during this festival. Online auctions for art, jewelry, and ceramics are also held during this time. Entertaining programs are held in Imagine Nation. Lot of food stalls are also put up. The proceeds of the revenue generated from this are used to fund the educational activities for 50,000 schoolchildren participating in programs of the Scottsdale Center for the Arts as well as the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) founded in 1999 is the only museum of its kind in the state of Arizona which displays latest in architecture and design. Designed by architect Will Bruder, it has five galleries for displaying works. It has an sculpture garden in the outdoors which has James Turrell's Knight Rise, a public sky space. The museum organizes various educational programs, lectures, workshops for families and individuals. The Store @ SMoCA sells furnishings, art and architecture books etc.
For people who are interested in avant-garde expressions of performing and visual arts, Scottsdale Cultural Council is the place. Tourists can display their talents in the same.
